Turkeys are great birds with a unique purpose. Some species of the wild turkey are able to fly on trees, and as far as turkeys go that is a great achievement. As great a feat as a flying turkey is, imagine an eagle doing the same thing and being thrilled about it. Your first question would probably be: does the eagle not realise it was made for more?
Countless people today, in their various endeavours are barely scratching the surface of their potential. They are happy and comfortable flowing with the tide and moving with the crowd. They are happy to go and do what everyone else is doing, without ever asking themselves the difficult yet important questions.
Questions like: am I in the right place doing the right thing at this moment in my life? Am I maximising my potential to the best of my knowledge? Am I realising the God-given potential already inside of me? Am I made for more?
If you want to experience and walk in your fullest potential, you should be prepared to go against the tide. Be prepared to break the norm. Going against the tide is never easy. It comes with challenges. Anyone at sea going against the tide will tell you it takes (at the very least) guts, energy, time, effort and vision to get to your destination, yet persevering in the right direction no matter the challenge always beats taking the easy (but wrong) road.
When it comes to height and strength, the eagle is made for so much more in comparison to the turkey. The eagle can soar to unimaginable heights when it puts its potential to use yet the eagle is in no way better than the turkey. It is simply living according to its design. The turkey also doesn’t look at the eagle with envy but rather is happy for the eagle because the eagle is where it was meant to be.
When you ignore your strengths and abilities and make little or no effort to develop yourself in order to maximise your potential, it’s easy to become an inconvenience; a copy, an unnecessary weight to someone else.
“You formed my innermost being, shaping my delicate inside and my intricate outside, and wove them all together in my mother’s womb. I thank you, God, for making me so mysteriously complex! Everything you do is marvellously breath-taking. It simply amazes me to think about it! How thoroughly you know me, Lord! You even formed every bone in my body when you created me in the secret place, carefully, skilfully shaping me from nothing to something. You saw who you created me to be before I became me! Before I’d ever seen the light of day, the number of days you planned for me were already recorded in your book.
Psalm 139:13-16 TPT
You are so unique and created for good works. Rather than just surviving, live—and not just live, thrive. Push yourself to become the best version of yourself. You are an eagle, stop flying with turkeys.
Many blessings
Inspirational talk. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Just like a child learning how to walk, we try and keep trying to be better persons for God, ourselves, families and the society. Thanks Kay.
