Unlearn to Learn

Irrespective of social status or background, everyone has had some form of education and had to go through a process of learning; learning is not confined to a formal setting. Every occasion, appointment, experience and journey you experience are all potential avenues for learning and while this should present as an opportunity for something good, it can also unfortunately work adversely against so many.

Learning itself according to the dictionary is the “acquisition of knowledge or skills through study, experience or being taught”

A lot of hindrances to growth and advancement comes, not as a result of a lack of education but, as a combination of too many untruths that have been learnt and developed as habits and mindsets over a period of time. These wrong truths (untruths) become the basis of your realities and in doing so prevents your mind’s access to the actual truth.

Have you taken a step back and asked yourself why you do things in certain ways or why you have certain expectations about some things? You may be surprised at your findings if you do.

So many peoples’ belief systems and ways of life are a direct result of their upbringing, experiences, social influences coming together to build a reality which often goes unquestioned. They simply try to build structures of new information on the foundation of their pre-conceived ideas. I am no builder, but I am aware that in construction certain materials do not mix well together. Truths and untruths do not mix well together. You have to determine what type of structure you intend to build and find the right material for it.

The process of unlearning should be deliberate, whilst all the time bearing in mind that is it a process.

Our greatest tool to unlearn all untruths is the word of God: the Bible. The authority of the word is sure. The word is infallible (2 Timothy 3:16, Psalm 1: 1-3). The word of God has both the ability and the power to show you truth and separate it from every false reality you may have experienced or created.

Hebrews 4:12 TPT

For we have the living Word of God, which is full of energy, and it pierces more sharply than a two-edged sword. It will even penetrate to the very core of our being where soul and spirit, bone and marrow meet! It interprets and reveals the true thoughts and secret motives of our hearts.

When the word of God becomes our standard, the process of unlearning becomes easier. It is time to let go of every expectation, experience, etc outside of God’s word which has shaped you in any way. It is time to unlearn your experiences and learn the word of God concerning you and build that structure.

James 1:21 GNT

“So get rid of every filthy habit and all wicked conduct. Submit to God and accept the word that he plants in your hearts, which is able to save you.”

Many Blessings
