The Belt of Truth

A lie surviving a hundred years is just a long-standing lie; it does not become truth. Our generation has so many lies floating about, to the point of some becoming acceptable norms. As acceptable as norms may be, you cannot as a Christian live by them.

“So stand ready, with truth as a belt tight around your waist…”
Ephesians 6:14 GNT

We have already established in my previous post that the armour of God is an armour of defence. We are defending the victory we already have in Christ. TRUTH IS A DEFENCE! At a time when we are bombarded on all fronts by so many things, we are encouraged to stand—not on our own but to STAND WITH TRUTH AS A BELT.

If you do not stand for something, you will fall for anything.

A belt is a piece of accessory used especially around the waist; it encircles you. As a Christian, the truth is what encircles you. The truth is your armour. The truth guides and defends you. The truth is what separates you.

The word of God is truth

“Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.”
John 17:17

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching the truth, rebuking error, correcting faults, and giving instruction for right living,
2 Timothy 3:16 GNT
You can only correct lies and deal with errors when you know what is true. There is no greater source on how to live right than the word of God. It gives direction and wisdom for everyday walk and for long term decisions.

Jesus is Truth

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
John 14:6 GNT

Truth is a person. The person of Jesus Christ. He is the source of light and life. (John 1:1-4)

The Truth brings freedom and not bondage

“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
John 8:32 NKJV

A belt in the soldier’s armour is the piece that holds the weapon. If the soldier does not have his belt, he cannot carry his weapon, and if he is without his weapon, he might as well not be alive.

The truth has to be the base for all you do as a Christian. Not culture, not what religion dictates, not ideologies, not the current political/economic/social climate. If your belief system is not in line with the truth (the word of God), don’t try to change the truth to suit you. Rather change your belief system to line up with the word.

Truth does not change according to seasons, truth remains the same and if you desire to walk and live as a believer, the truth has to be your yardstick.

Surround yourself with the truth at all times, it is your belt.

  1. Why do we lie? Lies kill and destroy trust and relationships. Even in the face of threats, truth sets us free. Truth gives freedom from fear and anxiety. Let’s see, act and say the truth. We will be free indeed. Thanks Kay.
