…. and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;
Ephesians 6:17 NKJ
A sword is double sided unlike a knife or a machete and this is significant in its use in Ephesians 6 because the sword is for DEFENCE as well as OFFENCE (attack). While the rest of the armour in Ephesians 6 gives a stance of defence, the word of God provides both a defence and an offence.
The word of God is the sword of the Spirit. Not a sword but THE sword. When the devil came against Jesus in the wilderness, Jesus showed us how to defeat him. Jesus used the sword: IT IS WRITTEN…
But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. ”
Matthew 4:4 NKJV
This is the stance every believer must adopt. The stance of what is written because the word of God is life to every believer.
“For the word of God is living and active and full of power [making it operative, energizing, and effective]. It is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating as far as the division of the soul and spirit [the completeness of a person], and of both joints and marrow [the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and judging the very thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
Hebrews 4:12 AMP
Think about this: would you be in a battle as a soldier and not use your weapon, be it to defend or to attack? While the answer to this may seem simple enough, so many Christians fail to use their weapons in everyday battles. Some would rather run aimlessly “from pillar to post” looking in all the wrong directions rather than use what has been made available. You are as equipped as the amount of the word of God you have in you.
Some people have the image of God to be mysterious and by that they mean unpredictable—and though God cannot be boxed in—His plan, purpose and intentions are all made clear in His word. His word is His will.
“For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the LORD, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster to give you a future and a hope.”
Jeremiah 29:11 AMP
Take up the word today, feed and meditate on it.
Equip yourself and you will live a life of victory!
The word of God is light unto my path. By words, God created the world. Constantly meditating and speaking the word in situations we find ourselves will ensure victory. May God give us wisdom and understanding in this regard, amen. Thanks Kay.
