“Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”
Ephesians 6: 11 NKJV
Going through this journey of looking at the whole armour of God, it is vital to note that having only some armour is like going into battle half ready—this is not a matter of picking and choosing what we are comfortable with or most understand; putting on the whole armour is the requirement for achieving our desired result. A state of preparedness is being fully dressed and putting into application all of the armour.

To conclude this seven-part series, we’ll be looking at prayer:
“praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints-”
Ephesians 6: 18 NKJV
Prayer is not a one-off event nor an occasional ceremony we perform. Prayer is communing with the father. We talk to God, and He talks back to us in the place of prayer.

Prayers is one of the ways we stand as believers. The verses in Ephesians 6: 13-14 says… having done all to stand, stand therefore. We stand on the truth of God’s word in the place of prayer. We are able to pray the heart of God for our leaders, nation, church, family and our lives. We get direction and guidance and the Holy spirit reveals the word of God and the mind of God to us in the place of prayer.

It is a truth that we are never outside the presence of God, however it is still good practice to have set times of prayers. We can be in constant communion with him (the veil between God and man is torn forever and we have continuous access to him) and this understanding should fill us with boldness. It helps us know that we can be in the middle of something and get an urge or a prompting to pray for someone or something and we go right ahead and pray without interrupting much of our activities.

The next time a name or face pops up in your mind, take a minute or so to bless them and speak a word over them. That is a form of prayer. The verse above tells us to pray at all times with all manner of prayers. Prayer can look like meditating on a particular verse or passage of scripture until it becomes a desire that we can action. Sometimes we pray in understanding and other times we pray in the language of the Holy Spirit.
“For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.”
1 Corinthians 14: 2 NKJV
Also, of note in that verse is the phrase “being watchful to this end with all perseverance”. We persevere in prayer not because of unbelief but rather because we know the will of God. So, when that will is not what we see in our physical world, we have the right as believers to pray the will of God into situations. We make decrees and sometimes demands just as Jesus prayed in Matthew 6: 10 NKJV
“Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
What are the things around you that don’t line up with what God says in His word and what are you doing about them.

In the book of Timothy, we are encouraged to pray different kinds of prayers.
“Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men,”
1 Timothy 2: 1 NKJV
We have a spiritual responsibility to pray for everyone.

Exercising our authority as believers in the place of prayer is part of our armour. We do not give up when we don’t see the manifestations of our prayers, instead we stand in faith, watchful and persistent because we know the truth that prayer is an effective way of standing against the evil one.
