The Toolbox

We recently had workers over at our house to change the carpets, and I watched in amazement as a bag of tools was opened, and every and anything imaginable was pulled out from it. It was a classic Mary Poppins bag. I mean everything from pocket knives to sprays, tapes, and all kinds of tools I had never seen and don’t have a clue on how they are used. By the time the bin bags and brush for sweeping the floor started rolling out, I almost couldn’t contain myself and let a laugh slip 😆. These guys came ready! They were able to carry out their task smoothly and efficiently because they were equipped with the right toolbox.

As I watched from the side, I couldn’t help but reflect on how different life’s journey could be if we could also show and utilise the right toolboxes. According to the second book of Peter (first chapter and third verse), we have everything we need to live in this world as Christians. As tough and challenging as some situations may be, you and I have the necessary tools to not just deal with them but excel in every area.

If you would just indulge me for a minute and visualise your biggest challenge in life. As big as that challenge may seem, you have been assured that you have the solution.

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.

2 Peter 1:3 NIV

If we have everything we need, why then do we still struggle?

You see, like the bag of tools I saw the workers use—though it was right in front of me and in my home—it was useless to me because I had no knowledge of its contents nor how to use them. The workers, on the other hand, were able to perform their task with so much ease because they not only had knowledge of the box but also its contents and knew how to use them.

The above verse of scripture says YOU HAVE POWER THROUGH KNOWLEDGE. Some people think they are powerless because they haven’t got the right connection or influence or because the present times we live in are so difficult. Others may think that the source of their problems and why they can’t make any headway is their past or their background and upbringing.

They are wrong.

Every believer has at their disposal everything needed to lead a joyful, successful, and fulfilling life, if only they know of the contents of their toolbox and how to use them. Knowledge in this context goes beyond acquiring and retaining information but rather means understanding and accepting the information acquired. Christ is the embodiment of every good thing you could possibly imagine, the will of God expressed to humanity. In Christ dwells the fullness of the Godhead:

For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. [10] So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.
Colossians 2:9-10 NLT

This verse means that what separates you from where you desire to be is the “knowledge” of Christ in that particular area and what He has already made available.
With this knowledge comes the strength to refute anything short of what His word says and go for what is already yours, a life full of great exploits.

…but the people who know their God shall be strong and carry out great exploits.

Daniel 11:32 NKJV

This is the life we ought to live because we have been called by God’s glory and His goodness. Knowing of and applying these tools is what brings us freedom.

“If you stick with this, living out what I tell you, you are my disciples for sure. Then you will experience for yourselves the truth, and the truth will free you.”

John 8:31-32 MSG

Much Blessings
