One morning, when our last daughter was four years old, she was having breakfast with one of her sisters, and they got engaged in a conversation which was fast becoming a disagreement. As I walked into the dining room, my middle daughter said to me that she was telling her sister that God could do everything, but her sister said no , God can not do everything…😳
Looking at both of them, I responded to their amazement that they were both correct. I went on to say that God can do everything but there is one thing God can not do( At this time, my middle daughter’s eyes grow almost bigger than it’s sucket), carrying on, I said, God cannot Lie. ( Hebrews 6: 18 ) .
After a pause that felt like a lifetime, my middle daughter’s response was
“waoh, even if he wanted to , he can not?” For which I responded , “no, He cannot. ” Both girls carried on discussing this as I walked back to the kitchen, and I overheard the little one saying to her sister, “Maybe we can teach him to lie ? ” 😳🤣
For my then four year old, lying could have been seen as something not good, yet unavoidable from time to time; like brushing your teeth for half the time you claimed or giving a nod when asked if you washed your hands after using the toilet when that was not the case. No matter the form of lying, there are people who have grown up to believe that lying is unavoidable, the sad result of this is that trusting someone else’s words become a challenge;this may have resulted from ‘white lies’ they were
told by the adults around them, or the broken promises they grew up experiencing or the fact that things never turned out as expected. These unknown to them have taken root and even after becoming believers in christ, they are still of the mindset that everybody sometimes lie which leaves such a negative impact as they struggle to believe the words of others, no matter how genuine those words may be. This attitude is then transferred to the word of God, which they hear. They read the bible and hear the word of God, yet somewhere in their minds, they feel that certain words of God can be taken less seriously as God may not have really meant what He said.
“He has given us both his promise and
his oath, two things we can completely count on, for it is impossible for God to tell a lie. Now, all those who flee to him to save them can take new courage when they hear such assurances from God; now they can know without doubt that he will give them the salvation he has promised them.
Hebrews 6:18 TLB
The verse in Hebre]ws tells us differently. It tells us that every believer has two things which they can take to the bank with confidence , and these are 1) God has given us His promise and
2) God has given us His oath.
God’s promises and God’s oath are God’s word spoken to us, put differently, the word of God is a promise and an oath, and God can not break His promise even if He tried.
What are God’s promises that you know He has given to you? Are you holding to them like you would hold on to a cheque signed by someone credible? Are you ready and willing to take God’s word to the bank ?
The book of Hebrews says it is IMPOSSIBLE for God to tell a lie, this means that EVERY word of God concerning you is true but like everything else, God isn’t going to force you to accept these words. He will not impose them on you. You have a choice to receive them, believe them, and run with them.
Take a challenge today, get a pen and paper, and write down every word of God spoken to you. Through the reading of the bible, the laying on of hands, words
of prophesy, etc, and start speaking those words to yourself with the conviction of one who knows that they are true and will happen for you.
Much Blessings
