An ambassador, by definition, is a representative of a state or government in a foreign land or country.
No ambassador goes to a foreign country on his or her own authority or making. They are always appointed by their home government.
So what does Paul mean here when he referred to believers as ambassadors?
So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!” 2 Corinthians 5: 20 NLT.
To understand this, it is important to look at the verses before. Verse fifteen tells us that Christ died for everyone and everyone means everyone . God’s forgiveness is available to ALL humans no matter what they have done or what they are doing. Understanding this is very key in the sense that it helps you see everyone through the love of God, and this makes sharing the gospel easier. That same verse fifteen tells us that everyone who receives God’s gift of new life seizes to live for themselves. The moment you become a Christian, your life stops being your own, and you begin to live for Christ.
One of the impacts that this has on you as a person is that you no longer evaluate people from the natural, human point of view, but see them through God’s view.
EARTH IS A FOREIGN LAND
Being called an ambassador automatically means that you are not in your home country. You are in a foreign land.
“But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior.” Philippians 3:20 NLT
Every believer needs to be conscious of this truth, that earth is temporary. We do not belong here. The understanding of this shifts our mindsets and attitudes. It helps us align priorities and focus on things that really matter. It helps us avoid majoring in the minor.
NO PERSONAL AGENDA
An ambassador is in a foreign land, doing the beading of his or her home country. Being an ambassador means that you are here, on earth, on an assignment, and that assignment is from an assignor. The verse of scripture we looked at earlier in 2 corinthians 5:20 above says that God is in us reconciling the world to Himself.
That is our assignment to bring the world back to God. God wants to , through our lives, reconcile people back to Him, and that can happen in more ways than you may imagine. It may happen in the way you conduct your business deals, the way you raise your children as a parent, in how you handle finances , the fact that you never stop sharing your faith and the testimony of God’s goodness, the list goes on but most importantly, always remember that your life is not your own, therefore you do not live for yourself.
YOU ARE CARED FOR BY YOUR HOME COUNTRY
“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” Matthew 6:33 NLT
One of the tricks of the devil is to make us believe we operate in the world’s systems. This not only damages our trust and dependence on God but also makes us think we can be self-reliant. Our job according to Matthew 6:33 is to seek the kingdom of God to be established here on earth and it is God’s job to take care of us, afterall, He sent us here in the first place.
YOU ARE PROTECTED
Please read Psalms 91 to get a picture of God’s protection over you. An ambassador has diplomatic immunity, which means that he or she is untouchable in the country where they are. Stop accepting the things the devil is throwing at you because you are untouchable.
If an ambassador is ignorant of his or her Diplomatic status , they will suffer not as a result of the lack of protection from their home country but a result of their ignorance of what they have at their disposal. We have been redeemed from every curse, so we shouldn’t operate under any. We have the word of God as our backing to withstand every assault that may be thrown at us.
Much Blessings
Kingdom.
