Fear of the unknown

The story of Moses’ birth is a very fascinating one. Unlike many  men before and after him, Moses parents didn’t hear God in any supernatural way about Moses. There were no encounters like Abraham’s for Isaac, Hannah, and Elkanah’s for Samuel or Samson’s parents for Samson. No Godly voice, no angel appearing, nothing out of the ordinary.

Infact Moses parents were ordinary people leading ordinary lives, so how did such ordinary people make it to the hall of faith in Hebrews 11 ?

They were people who made the most of very trying circumstances by living their lives not in fear of what might happen, nor of the powers that be but simply walking in the way they knew to be right.
Before the birth of Moses, Pharaoh had made a decree that all male born should be thrown into the river nile. He ( Pharaoh) was against the increase and prosperity of the Israelites, and as hard as he tried to oppress them, they continued to increase, so he went after the babies.

Sadly, we live in a time and age when the attacks on our faith as believers are very much on our children. Children today are attacked through education,  social media and every means possible and like Pharaoh in Egypt,  the intention is, to crush the  faith of the believer and stop generations from the truth, but what we need are people like Moses parents who would do the right thing, not because it is popular but because it is the right thing to do.

Exodus chapter 2 and Verse 2b says the woman saw that her baby was a special child and she hid him for 3 months. That baby was a gift from God, and his mother recognised it. She looked at him, not with human eyes but through the eyes of the Spirit, and she saw that he was special.  What she saw in her child gave her the boldness and strength to protect him even at the risk of her own life.

Today, we have things that oppose our faith, laws that are very unfavourable towards the word of God and as believers have become in some places quite unpopular but lets never loose sight of what is important; that everyone of us can make a huge difference by that ‘small’ act of obedience to God’s word, even when the condition is unfavourable.

Do you have  desires, dreams, and visions in your heart that you would like to pursue but are afraid because the weather around is not conducive ? Some people are waiting for supernatural voices to shake them up and re assure them that God is in a venture before they take a step, when all they need is the assurance of the written word of God.

Just as the  nameless man and woman did not let king Pharaoh’s decree stop them from doing what they knew was the right thing to do, so we need not look at who or what does not favour us and start looking at doing what God has put in our hearts to do.

Moses mother did not need a special word from God. She knew that her baby was special and that was enough to protect him. She did not focus on the king and his unfavourable law, otherwise she would have given up and thrown that baby away like hundreds of women may have done and the world today would not have reaped the benefits of her taking a stand.

I don’t think Moses was the only special baby born at the time, yet we only read about him. I think there were other special babies who could have done other great things in their families,  among their tribes or in the nation as a whole but their parents did not recognise what was in them because they feared the unknown,  they feared what the king could possibly do to them and that robbed them of their potential blessings.

  1. True but very sad. We are not even in the days of the Antichrist yet many have relegated or abandoned their faith due to social, economic, geographical or political gains. We as Christians need to step up our game. Evangelism is no longer fervent. Doing right is no longer important. Let’s always remember the cross and reason for redemption. Face life. He who keepeth us Is Always faithful.
