This must be an awkward question in a way since the question itself may sound vague so in an attempt at narrowing it down, my question really would be, are you in charge of your life, are you people and situations led or are you led by God?
To help answer this question, I would like to explain further these three categories of leadership.
The first one is SELF LEADERSHIP. People are increasingly desiring to take ownership of their lives and be responsible for accomplishments, and in doing so , many have allowed certain lines to be blurred. Taking responsibility is not the same as self leadership.
Self responsibility is most likely the most important tool needed for forward thinking and forward movement. Self responsibility is the ownership of the fact that as a being of free will, it is your responsibility to want more for your life. You are responsible for the decisions you make in life, which ultimately lead you in the direction you go.
Self responsibility means taking actions that may not be pleasant to you physically or emotionally but actions that are beneficial to you in the long run. It is also taking ownership even when circumstances beyond your control happen to ensure you dont get swallowed up but come out on the victorious side.
Self leadership, on the other hand, is being the boss of your own life, which in itself is flawed as you did not create yourself. It is the denial of the lordship of one superior as Genesis 1:27 tells us
“So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God, he created them; male and female, he created them.
Also, in 1 Corinthians 6:19c -20, it says:
“You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honour God with your body.
A question would then be, can a Christian lead themselves? And the answer to that, unfortunately, is a yes. Yes many Christians, though have truly received Christ do not yeild themselves to God’s leadership and remember, that Your will is yours at all times so you have a choice to surrender to God and His leadership of your life or to only make God your saviour and not your Lord.
Self leadership is planning out your life the way you want it to go without any interferences and working your hardest to get there. It produces self-made men and women who have little or no regard for God and His purposes for their lives. Their end becomes a justification of their means, and oftentimes, this is through sweat and tears.
Many miss the mark of what they have been designed for or what their purpose is because they haven’t taken the time to stop and ask themselves some difficult questions.
Like I said in one of my previous blogs,
“If your incredible achievements do not line up with your purpose in life as a human being, then you would be like someone who boarded a plane with a first class ticket to the wrong destination.
As successful as life may seem, a life outside its purpose would sadly be a misused life, but how can a purpose be discovered or realised if one is leading one’s own life ?
You can not be lord over your own life if you did not create yourself, which brings us to the next type of leadership, which we shall be looking at in next week’s blog.
Every blessing
