The significance of gatekeeping runs through centuries, and though not as predominant as it used to be, its importance, especially in certain sectors, can not be overlooked.
A gatekeeper has the power and influence to permit or disallow certain asses and in  Mark 13 , we are called gatekeepers who have been given the instruction to watch for His return.

“The coming of the Son of Man can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. When he left home, he gave each of his slaves instructions about the work they were to do, and he told the gatekeeper to watch for his return. [35] You, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know when the master of the household will return-in the evening, at midnight, before dawn, or at daybreak. [36] Don’t let him find you sleeping when he arrives without warning. [37] I say to you what I say to everyone: Watch for him!”
Mark 13: 34 – 37 NLT

How do we watch for His return? By carrying out the instructions he gave when he was leaving.  Jesus illustrated His instruction through the story he cited in Mark 13 about the man who was going on a long journey.
In Mark chapter 16, after Jesus was raised from the dead,  He gave these instructions to His disciples:

“Go into all the world and preach the good news to everyone. Anyone who believes will be saved. “

In obeying Jesus words to go into all the world, some have travelled and are travelling from nation to nation to preach the gospel, and that is great but not everyone would have  to leave their physical vicinity to preach the gospel. 

Your area of influence is your world.  Your home , your school, place of work,your sector of business, neighbourhood, your city, these are your world.  The things you have control over are your world, and the best thing you can do to your world is to introduce the good news, amist all the bad news going round. The world needs the good news not just thrown at them in words. The world needs to see the good news manifested in you . The world needs to see you walking in good health,  living a life of abundance, and not in lack. The world needs to see you prospering in the things you do. The world needs to see you live a life of joy, peace, hope, love, and life. That’s how you keep the gates by allowing access of heaven through your life to earth.

You are a gatekeeper, and you determine the flow around you. You have access to heaven’s goodness through Christ, allow that goodness flow through your life to your world.
