Have you ever heard the expression “mere words”?
There is nothing ‘mere’ about words!
One of the strongest proofs of anything we do as humans is in words. Contracts are agreed upon by words, whether written on paper or verbalised, companies go into huge, multi million deals just by speaking or writing words, couples get married by words they speak to each other, words are used in the formative years of babies and children to guide and nurture them, they are used to teach and express things to people and yet people are not mindful of some of the words they speak.
Have you met someone who’s got nothing positive to say? Almost every word that come from their mouth is either a curse, a complaint, or a condemnation of something or someone else. If you look closely at them, could you sincerely say they radiate joy and happiness to others or themselves? The response is almost always in the nagetive, and why do you think that is? It is a product of their mouth.
Words create, your words create. It can create life, or it can create chaos.
For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.
James 3:3 NKJV
The above verse of bible tells us that as humans, we make mistakes in many things but it says that if we don’t stumble in words, which put differently, if we are able to control what we say, then we can control everything else about us. This means that to control your life, you need to control your words.
Have you encountered people who would not take a compliment? They always have something down grading to say about what was complimented about. Compliment their clothes, and they mention the ‘cheap’ shop they got them from, or they make it a point of duty to mention it was on sale.
Compliment a task they performed and they make reference to someone who performed similar task better, always indirectly bringing down themselves in the guise of humility not realising that it is a self centered attitude which makes it a form of pride.
Don’t use your own words to tear down your own life. Be your own preacher and start speaking words of life to yourself.
A look at the book of Genesis gives us a prototype of how we operate. When there was chaos and darkness, God spoke light and life. You never speak death and darkness, even though you may be experiencing those, you always speak what you would like to create, light and life.
Give yourself a challenge this week, and start paying attention to what you say: these may include what you say to yourself and what you say to others.
Ask your self, “if the words coming out of my mouth were to be used in building something, what would that building look like at the end of the week, would it be a building admired by others because of its beauty and strength or would it be a disgusting building to look at ? “
Remember, to have control of your entire life and that includes every aspect of it,you need to have control of your words, so start creating the world you want to see by what you say.
