I recently was watching a series and towards the end realised how eager I was to carry on as I wanted to find out what happened next. Through the cause of the day, I found my thoughts drifting to the series and what the outcome would be.
The action of anticipating something; expectation or prediction, is a key player in the road towards success and accomplishment.
To anticipate by definition is to expect , to look forward to, to be sure of, and each of these phrases come into play as a result of something else. The thing with anticipation is that it fills your entire being, heart, and mind and leaves no room for almost anything else. It sets a cause of direction for you because you will always be drawn to what you are expecting or looking forward to.
Have you noticed how, when you pay attention to a particular brand of car, it becomes the car you see everywhere? Did the cars suddenly go on the road after you noticed the brand? No, your senses became more aware of them, and your sight followed your senses, hence they appeared more than before. The same applies to anticipation. What you anticipate, you become drawn towards and what you are drawn towards, you attract.
That is why some people seem to always find themselves in one trouble or another. Troubles generally come to everyone once in a while as a result of us living in a fallen world. You can be careful for all you want, and sometimes other people make it their mission to try and frustrate you, so that’s not what I am making reference to. I am talking about people who seem never to stay out of trouble.
They start anticipating another event as soon as they come out of one, almost like they knew it was coming. In a way, yes, they knew, they anticipated it.
In the same vein, positive anticipation can attract good things towards you. When you expect good things, you look for good things. When you expect success, your mind and senses are attuned to events, ways, and sources that enable what you anticipate .
The question now is, how does one build anticipation?
The first step for me is the ability to see beyond ‘now’. A person who lives for just the moment can not have a positive anticipation. All they see is ‘now’ and the events happening around them. This, in the long run, creates negative anticipation. People who live for and are focused on now tend, to live based on what they see around them in the immediate, i.e , current happening, the news, political climate, their experience of the day etc and this creates fear, uncertainty, anxiety/worry, which in turn produces more of these. Even when they have good moments, the anticipation of some bad overpowers the temporary joy and good, and then it becomes a circle.
On the other hand, a person who sees beyond now and looks to the future is a person with hope and hope, which is one of the greatest forces there is.
To see beyond now means to have a vision, and when you have a vision, like the car analogy, you begin to see things and ways to enable that vision to fruition. Anticipation, in this instance, becomes a driving force leading you to take small but meaningful steps in the right direction.
Never underestimate the power of anticipation. Infact begin to pay attention to what occupies you the most, that is a simple test to inform you of where your priorities are and ask yourself if your present state or situation is pointing towards a positive or negative anticipation.
