Growing up, we heard the phrase , “Curiosity killed the cat.”
Oftentimes, when it was used, it was in a nagative connotation, usually when your parents or whoever was telling you off thought that you asked too many questions or you were just being annoying.
One of the resulting effects for some of us was that we associated question asking and the sense of genuine curiosity with being a bother.
This created on a sub conscious level, a way of thinking that questioning things or asking difficult questions was wrong and would get us into trouble, after all, who wants to be the cat who died for being curious? And the end result of this ? We lost that sense of curiosity, that sense of finding out, and not taking things at face value.
Asking questions in difficult situations can not only create opportunities but can also help in gaining direction to avoid stagnation.
An example of someone who was genuinely curious was a young lady in Scriptures called Mary.
You can read up her story in Luke 1: 26 – 38.
When Mary found herself in a seemingly impossible situation, she was curious enough to ask, “How can this be ? “
The month of January is almost running out and some of you may have seemingly impossible dreams and visions and you are already panicking that the first month of the year is almost gone and you are nowhere close to what you had imagined.
Why not pause, take a breath, and start asking yourself some questions. Not condemning or judgemental questions but genuine curious questions as to how you can move yourself and your project forward.
Ask yourself the difficult questions, like WHY do you want to do what you want to do, WHO is it going to benefit? HOW are you going or carry out that project? WHEN is the right time( as some people are comfortable dreaming as long as they dont have to implement).WHERE is it leading ? and do not be afraid of the responses you get.
Start taking steps no matter how unfamiliar they may be, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes.
Don’t focus on the uncontrollables around you, but focus on the things you have control over.
Mary was engaged to be married when she heard this news that she was going to conceive a child supernaturally. Now she could have worried about the impact this could have had on her relationship with Joseph and made wrong choices but instead, she focused on what she could control which was her acceptance of this enormous task , hence she said in verse 38: “let it be to me according to your word”.
That simple response that came as a result of an open-minded curious question changed the course of everything.
What questions are you avoiding to ask that may be key to your progression?
