As I fast approach my 5^th decade, I can honestly say that there has been a shift in my perspective on life and a few (okay, maybe more than a few) lessons learnt…and still learning I might add. Of those many lessons, I would today like to focus on lessons from the Ant.

Proverbs 6:6-8 TPT

“When you’re feeling lazy, come and learn a lesson from this tale of the tiny ant. Yes, all you lazybones, come learn from the example of the ant and enter into wisdom. The ants have no chief, no boss, no manager—no one has to tell them what to do. You’ll see them working and toiling all summer long, stockpiling their food in preparation for winter.”

The above verse of the Bible says: “when you are feeling lazy, come and learn…”

Some people have the most amazing ideas in their heads. If you have a chat with them, they can walk you through hours of what they intend to accomplish as soon as everything falls in place, as soon as the perfect condition arises. But guess what, that time never comes. They sit in that spot and never take the steps to accomplish that all important accomplishment/dream.  

The thing about life is that it goes by, waiting for no-one. So, instead of sitting and waiting Proverbs 6 points you in the direction of the tiny ant. Verse 7 says that the ants have no chief, no boss, no manager, no one to tell them what to do, YET they know how to work.  

The first lesson here would be to BE YOUR OWN MOTIVATOR. You don’t alwayshave to have cheerleaders in your gallery to accomplish things. Be your own cheerleader. People may not always believe in you, don’t hold it against them as they may not see what you see. Why throw those ideas away because there is no one to direct you? Instead, if you look around, you’ll find just about any information you need. Learn to develop yourself and start by using the resources available to you.  

The second lesson would be to WORK HARD. The pathway to success requires hard work; there are no short-cuts, not in the long run. If you want to succeed at anything, you have to work for it. You have to get up and out of your comfort zone. In a microwave era, where the average time for meals to be ready is 5 minutes, it’s easy to forget the power of patience and hard work. As fast as time seems to be speeding by and as readily available as things appear to be, the essence and art of hard work should not be lost. 

The third lesson would be VISION. You have to be able to see ahead. You need to have vision. The ants work all summer in preparation of winter. While it is warm and nice out with plenty of food around, the ants are busy putting things in place for a season in the future. What is your vision for tomorrow? Do you have a consumerist mindset? “Eat all you can and have all you can eat.” Do you have a working plan for the foreseeable future? If you plan, prepare and work hard in the summer when you’ve got the strength, energy and resources, you will be able to rest in winter when you may not be so strong.  

The final lesson from the ant (for now) would be WISDOM. The whole essence of looking at the ant is to get wisdom. Wisdom is knowledge applied. As we consider these tiny creatures, may we learn great lessons that push us forward and upwards remembering Proverbs 6: 10 – 11 TPT: If you keep nodding off and thinking “I’ll do it later” or say to yourself, “I’ll just sit back awhile and take it easy,” just watch how the future unfolds! By making excuses you’ll learn what it means to go without. Poverty will pounce on you like a bandit and move in as your roommate for life.
