There are many passages of bible that intrigue me, and the book of Ecclesiastes is one of them. We see or read the writings of a man who could be referred to as one who has “been there, done that and worn the t shirt” of almost anything in life, one who has a first hand experience if you like of the futility of life without God.

Solomon, was a king, a man of great wisdom, influence and affluence and amongst the very remarkable things he said, one of the most in my opinion can be found in Ecclesiastes chapter 9 and verse 11( NKJV)


“I returned and saw under the sun that- The race is not to the swift, Nor the battle to the strong, Nor bread to the wise, Nor riches to men of understanding, Nor favor to men of skill; But time and chance happen to them all.”

Some people spend their entire lives wishing they had a different life, some admire and envy others who they feel have it easier than they and yet do nothing with their own lives, when opportunities present themselves, simply because they did not recognise these opportunities for what they were. Solomon is saying here in the verse of bible mentioned above that there are opportunities presented to every human being, irrespective of their background, upbringing, race, political inclination or status and most times, these opportunities come through TIME and CHANCE .

You may not have it as easy in life, but you are not without opportunities to create a different outcome for you and those around you.
According to Ecclesiastes chapter 3, everything in life with purpose has time attached to it, and when we make reference to time, though one word in English, it can actually mean two different things. In Greek, time as we know it is known by two words, Chronos and Kairos, and the understanding and correct implementation of these will lead to a productive and satisfying life.

The word Chronos refers to a measured, ticking, quantitative time; this is where the words chronicles and chronological are derived from. This is the time we measure with clocks and watches; in otherwords, operates within the 24-hour frame.
The other word for time is Kairos. This refers to moments , seasons, and opportunities. These are not necessarily guided by 24-hour events but could be referred to as ‘opportune moments’.
Realising opportune moments( Kairos ) and maximising them or actually creating these moments by how we use our quantitative time ( chronos ) is what sets us apart and helps us re write our stories. For the purpose of this blog, we are going to look a bit more at Ecclesiastes chapter 3, and this may be for a few weeks. For today, we shall be looking at a time to be born.

Through the bible, you’ll find the consistency in prophesies about the prediction of the birth of Jesus, who was destined to be the Messiah of mankind. There was a time for Him to be born to this earth through the virgin birth in order for him to accomplish the things that He did accomplish. Not just the account of Jesus, but we see people like John the Baptist, Moses in the Old Testament, Joseph, and the list goes on.. and just as they were all born at particular times and seasons for different purposes, so are you and I. You may feel like your story doesn’t quite fit because you were unplanned for or ‘an accident ‘ as you may have been told or meant to believe, but the truth according to Psalm 139: 13- 16 is that God formed you even before any body knew about your existence and His
eyes saw your substance, even before you took form in your mother’s womb.

It went further to say that everything about you and your life and destiny has already been written down before you arrived ( this calls for celebration, because it means that if you walk with and depend on God,you will live a wonderful, fulfilled and satisfying life ), so you are no accident, no matter your birth circumstance and you were not born in the wrong era. This is your moment. This is your generation.

So, just as there is a time for you to be born, there is a birth time to so many dreams visions and plans concerning you and just as the best way to operate a mechine is by looking at the operating manual, your dreams, goals , visions can come alive by seeking direction from God through His word and in prayers. Paul made a prayer in Ephesians 1: 17 (TPT)


“I pray that the Father of glory, the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, would impart to you the riches of the Spirit of wisdom and the Spirit of revelation to know him through your deepening intimacy with him. [18] I pray that the light of God will illuminate the eyes of your imagination, flooding you with light, until you experience the full revelation of the hope of his calling—that is, the wealth of God’s glorious inheritances that he finds in us, his holy ones!”

The best thing that can happen to you is your imagination being flooded with light to know the immeasurable riches of God’s planand purpose for you and your future so you can walk in ALL that God’s has planned for you.

There are so many people out there with great talents, desires, and dreams, yet so afraid to explore or step out with these. There is no better opportunity than maximising the gift of today to work towards your dream.
