A time to plant and a time to harvest

As long as the earth remains, there will be planting and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night.”
Genesis 8: 22 NLT

Several years ago, I overheard a group of men having a heated  conversation, and what stood out in this conversation for me was what transpired between two of them in the form of words. In the mist of the raised voices, I heard one of them say( shouting on the top of his voice, I might add) ” I don’t believe in photosynthesis, I don’t believe in photosynthesis “. I remember thinking, ‘ What has your unbelief got to do with anything? ‘

There are laws and  processes in place that function with or without your belief of them; Photosynthesis, gravity,  planting and  harvest, are amongst some and  your unbelief of them or your lack of application of their principles only hinders you from being a benefactor.

God has designed the earth to function according to seasons. That’s why we don’t have  twelve months of summer,  winter,  autumn, or spring at once. These seasons take turns, and when one appears, there is an assurance that the others will come, likewise planting and harvesting. If one is in  place, the other is sure to come.
Planting, also known as seed time, happens whether we are intentional about it or not. Put differently,  if we put nothing in the ground, we get nothing in return ( that in itself is a form of planting and harvesting) , so rather than waste a  season by not planting anything, let us be intentional about the seeds we plant.

Preparation and planning are forms of planting, and taking our plans beyond the planning phase  even serves  better. When you have a desire,  dream, or vision, one thing you will realise is that these don’t just materialise. They require some action, work, or effort. The quality of work  you put in is very crucial to the success or failure of that venture.

Planting season is not only about business ideas, you can plant towards receiving and walking in bible promises for you by taking time to feed your mind with what the word of God says concerning that  particular area of your life. Take for instance, someone who is having a long standing  medical challenge can decide to invest some time and finance in getting some materials on healing, getting a bible or a different translation to the one they are used to ( sometimes you just need something said differently for you to get a new light from it )and intentionally focus on studying the word regarding healing  until their minds become saturated with God’s true about that situation, that is sowing seeds( planting) and you are sure to reap a harvest.

A question for you today is, are you planting seeds that you will be happy for when they come  back to you in bigger forms?  Is what you are putting in the ground today, what you are expecting tomorrow?

A farmer will tell you that not every crop is planted at every time of the year. Maximise each moment you have by what you put in place and never be sidetracked by oppositions, mistakes, or falures. These are weeds that come alongside when planting is done. Never ignore your project by focusing on these minors, the only attention you give to them is taking them out , clear them away and focus on your plant.

Don’t stop working on your vision and  dreams simply because you  have some investment in place, you stay active and ready by improving on methods, improving on yourself, and rest assured that harvest will come. Don’t judge your harvest by someone elses’. Your ventures  may look similar,  you may have started out together but always remember that you not the same as anyone so it  doesn’t matter how long it takes, as long as you keep at it and keep nurturing what you have planted,  you will see harvest in due course.

Much Blessings

  1. Great piece. We plant everyday in our actions. The fact is we must be intentional about what we plant to produce the right seeds. May the Holy Spirit help us. Thanks Kay.
