We are never really at a loss as long as we are alive.
Oh we do experience losses from time to time, and things may go sideways from our original plan yet we all possess a strength, an ability to bounce back from whatever setbacks we may encounter and for that singular reason, I say, we are never really at a loss.
“Even a tree has more hope! If it is cut down, it will sprout again and grow new branches. [8] Though its roots have grown old in the earth and its stump decays, [9] at the scent of water, it will bud and sprout again like a new seedling.
Job 14: 7-9 NLT
If 2023 is a year where you can sincerly say that you have been through hell, then this blog is for you!
Even as the year is coming to an end, you may look back at it, and all that glares at you is pain, loss, defeat, and failure. I have good news for you, there is still hope, no matter where you’re coming from or what you have been through.
In the above verse, the description of the tree states the most hopeless of situations: it is cut down, with its stump in decay and its root old in the earth. Let’s pause for a minute and imagine what type of scenario this could possibly be.
When a tree is cut down, it is most likely not for the benefit of the tree itself as cutting down signifies an end of life. If the tree is underperforming or has a problem that could be treated, its branches may be cut or the tree completely uprooted and in grafted somewhere else but never a cutting down. In a rare occurrence of cutting down, the tree and its root are well looked after until there is a re growth, but this is not the case in the tree referred to above. Not only is it cut down, but the roots are dried up and old to the point where the stump decays.
Imagine investing heavily in a project and putting things in place for a great launch or expansion and then something goes wrong and you lose not just the money invested but credibility, relationship and time, some people have had such challenging time in their marriages that it appears as though the entire relationship is held by a thread, others may have lost someone or something so dear and so close that the devastation is almost unbearable.
I don’t know what category you may fall into or you could most probably be in a category all by yourself due to the gravity of your situation yet, I say with no intention of downplaying whatever you have been through or where ever you are at, THERE IS HOPE.
Not the hope of wishful thinking and building castles in the air, but hope that comes from WATER.
Job chapter fourteen and verse nine says “At the scent of water, it will bud and sprout again like a new seedling.”
Like the tree in the book of Job, no matter how hopeless a situation may appear, it can bud again even at the scent of water. Water in this context refers to the word of God. The word of God is the water of life. ( John 4: 14, Ephesians 5:26 ).
The word of God brings hope. Even as this year is coming to a close, one of the best things you can do is to invest time in building yourself through the word of God. Get yourself a new Bible ( preferably a different translation to what you are used to) , get a notepad and pen, invest in a bible dictionary, and begin to study like never before.
“As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God. Psalm 42:1 NLT
This should be our go to for the new year, our souls having such deep longing to know God and His plans for us because as we do this, our souls ( our minds, will and emotions) begin to line up with our spirit ( which is already reborn unto God) and that’s when we begin to bud again.
We begin to bud visions and dreams that come not from any place of selfishness but from a place of divine inspiration.
The more we feed on the word of God, the more our budding and sprouting is evident and the pain, loss, failure or disasters of the past truly begin to fade away in the light of the glorious hope before us.
