Provision for the vision

One of the challenges often faced by visionaries and dreamers is the challenge of adequate resources. There is so much to do with so little sometimes. We hear things like the provision will come, and we rightfully look out for these provisions, yet when you look at scriptures, what you see often is God making the provision available before the task is given.

Like in Genesis when He put everything in place before creating man and when He instructed Elijah to go to the place where He ( God ) had already made provisions.( 1 Kings 17:4) There are lots of instances like these throughout the bible.

Oftentimes, when you see the provision, it is not necessarily the time the provision was made available. (Genesis 22:13 ) .The provision is almost always  before the task.

In the instance of Moses,  his need was not financial,  the resources he needed were people.  People to help him in the journey of leading which he had been called to do.

When Moses was first called, God told him his mission,  which was in two folds, to lead the Israelites out of Egypt and lead them into the promised land. These were two separate yet continuous assignments that required different approaches in leadership.

Accomplishing the first task only required Aaron, for speaking and the elders for  relaying information and instructions to the rest of the people, and this worked beautifully until they left Egypt.

The dynamics of Moses’ leadership changed as they got on their way. The people didn’t get food directly from Egypt anymore, and they, though in covenant with God, didn’t have a covenant relationship.  They didn’t know God as their provider. Yes, they saw God perfom wonders and miracles in Egypt but didn’t have any personal relationship with Him, so trusting Him for daily provisions didn’t come naturally.

This new challenge, along with the attack from the Amalekites, caused Moses to draw more from the resources he already had available. Joshua, who used to be a leader of a tribe was now made head of the entire army and also given the authority to select men for battle.

Recognising when to change strategies  as a visionary is very important. It can be a game changer, a determinant of success or failure .

Not only did Moses appoint Joshua head of the army , but he also had to grant access to Hur by  accepting Hur’s help in lifting his hand for the team to succeed.

Another significant interjection to Moses’s leadership came in the form of his father-in- law. Jethro was not just a random man who decided to poke his nose where it didn’t belong,on the contrary, he  was the man who had given shelter and a job to Moses all those years ago when Moses ran away from Egypt.

This was the man who gave his daughter to Moses in marriage.  A man who Moses was confident enough to send his wife and sons back to when he needed to confront Pharaoh( Exodus 18:2 ).

So Jethro earned Moses trust and was in a position to offer counsel to Moses for more effective leadership.
There are some people in your life and walk who see aspects of you that you may not see and could offer valuable input if you let them. Jethro was able to call moses out ( Exodus 18:17)
“This is not good! Moses father in law exclaimed .You are going to wear yourself out – and the people too.”

As a visionary,  it is essential that you have people around you who can call you out when you don’t seem to get it right. The biggest obstacle anyone can have is not having anyone who can talk to them, who can call them out if the need arises. Who do you have around you?

Jethro saw a problem and saw a solution, too. Be weary of people who only see problems, who only point out the problems and what you are doing wrong to you but never see or offer solutions.
Jethro’s advice to Moses was to select people from within.  Moses may never have noticed that he had people from within who could do the job if Jethro had not pointed it out. Some of the resources you might be waiting for to execute your vision and dream may  already be within. The provision may already be there, you just have to look differently.  Start using what you already have.

Every blessing
